Info about some of the artists:

OT IZVORA (“From the Source”) – Bulgarian Folk Music Choir – Toronto

Motivated by the beauty and richness of Bulgarian folk music and funding from the Toronto Arts Council, Ot Izvora was formally established in 2015. Directed by Dr. Irene Markoff and with the assistance of Sonia Kiriakova, the all-Bulgarian choir rehearses weekly with great enthusiasm and performs at Bulgarian and Canadian events. Our repertoire includes authentic and arranged songs from Bulgaria’s diverse ethnographic regions performed a cappella or with instrumental accompaniment.

Choir members include Irene Markoff, Sonia Kiriakova, Radiana Kozareva, Dimi Dragieva,
Galina Petrova, and Roumiana Alexandrova. Contact us on Facebook.

Group for Bulgarian folklore dances “Golden Thrace” is founded in September 2014. Its aspiration is to preserve and popularize the magic of the Bulgarian music and dance while establishing a recreational environment of camaraderie, good will and joy in the Bulgarian community in Toronto.
Currently, the group with all its formations involves over 60 dancers from the age of 5 to 65. For its short existence, the group has learned and performed an enviable selection of over 50 traditional dances—known as “horo”—from all ethnographic regions of Bulgaria.
Founders, artistic directors and choreographers of “Golden Thrace” are Mariya Zasheva and Mihail Kochankov.

“Bulgarche”

Is a children’s performance group, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Bulgarian heritage and culture among individuals of Canadian and Bulgarian descent. It was founded in the spring of 2009 by a couple parents, eager to educate their children about their origins. The mission of the group is to teach kids some moral values through Bulgarian customs and traditions and touch upon folk songs and dances that preserved Bulgaria as a nation over the centuries.

Our main goal is to popularize Bulgarian history and culture by:

– Organizing traditional customs and events like Christmas and Easter gatherings, concerts, family outings and many more.

– Actively participating in multi-cultural, civic and charitable events in Canada.

– Providing classes in Bulgarian language, customs and traditions, folklore singing, crafts and cuisine.

The group has been under the musical direction of Frederika Todorov, whose tremendous efforts and enthusiasm, led the children to a new level and a greater stage confidence.

Kaloyan Kalchev

KIKO is an established singer/songwriter based in the city of Toronto, Canada. His classical music training & years of experience on stage, both in TO and his home country Bulgaria, formed his identity as a distinct artist. His music is inspired by his roots as the fusion of various styles- pop, techno & traditional rhythmic music. It truly transcends you to a place of re-connection to yourself, music of escape to a world of vivid imagination and dance. His newest single “Keep On Moving” is a celebration of his roots & an invitation to his creative sound fusion.

Lizzie Naumova

Lizzie Naumova is a highly talented, an extremely precocious young operatic soprano who is all of 13 years of age. At the age of eight she performed the role of “Amahl” in Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors, under the direction of Alexander Veprinsky. Two years ago she started to learn Italian Operatic Bel canto techniques. Her teacher is the greatest spinto soprano artist performer in GTA,    Ms. Mila Ionkova.

Also she is very honoured to sing different styles of music like Traditional Bulgarian Folk Songs and classical pop music.

Since 2014 Lizzie is a dancer and a member of the Ensemble Dimitrovche, a Dance Group of Bulgarian Folk Dances.
